Sept 13 wilm foreclosure

Real estate research firm CoreLogic released new figures Tuesday that show a decline in foreclosure during September in the Wilmington area.

The foreclosure rate fell to 3.2 percent this September compared to 3.42 percent in September 2012. It was the fourth time in the last five months the rate had declined, but in the five months prior to that the rate was increasing.

The percentage of mortgages that are more than 90 days delinquent also decreased to 7.13 percent from 7.66 percent a year ago.

CoreLogic defines "Wilmington area" more broadly than most by including Cecil County, Md., and Salem County, N.J., in its data, where foreclosures have been more prevalent.

If the data only measured New Castle County, both rates would likely be much lower (as you can see from the bright red portions of the map above).
